Thanks to the more than generous donations from all the girls and parents in St.John of God every resident was able to receive a Christmas parcel. We even had enough parcels to donate to the men's hostel and the charity Oasis , which operates here in the city. It was a beautiful morning which the residents of St.Patrick's really appreciated. The girls from sixth class sang Christmas carols and played on their ukuleles and a great sing song was had by all. Thanks to Clair for putting all the bags together and for all the parents for their donations. This annual visit to St.Patrick's has become a lovely St. John of God tradition which we hope will long continue for many years to come.

26/10/17: Miss.Crowley's class planted spring bulbs today. Each girl had their own pot to plant the bulbs. We are going to put them in the garden and leave them for the winter and hopefully when spring arrives we will have lovely flowers to enjoy. We are also going to write about planting the bulbs. This will be procedural writing which is all part of our English genre writing plan. As you can tell from the picture the girls had lots of fun. Unfortunately Miss. Crowley didn't have as much fun trying to clean all the soil from the floor!
26/10/17: Miss. Crowley's girls have been busy since the start of term working on the new oral language curriculum. The teachers had their training day back in March and now junior infants to second class are engaging with the new curriculum working through the milestones and progression steps. The girls enjoy working in their groups on the various oral language tasks set by Miss. Crowley. This week they played a game of 'Would you Rather?'. The questions were all Halloween themed. It really got the girls talking and developing their oral language skills and vocabulary. Each girl had to be able to state their opinion and give a reason for it. They also are developing turn taking, listening skills and speaking to an audience. As Miss. Crowley walked around the class she could hear great debates going on as to which answers the girls felt were correct.

Girls from first-sixth class participated and each classes had a different distance to run. There were lots of other schools there and plenty of stiff competition but we have great news. Overall we were second in the girl's category. There ere were lots of medals won and all the girls were fantatsic for taking part. We had a great day but we were all very tired by the time we got back on the bus to go back to school. Thanks to Mrs.O'Neill , Ms. Hartrey , Ms.Butler and Catherine for coming with us too.Check out the photos below.

14/9/17:Junior Infants are certainly very busy at the moment. After big lunch today they paired up with fifth class for some buddy reading. It looks like they really enjoyed it.
14/9/17: Beat the Street is an exciting new initiative being delivered by Intelligent Health with support from Waterford Sports Partnership. It is funded by Sport Ireland, Healthy Ireland, Dormant Accounts and Waterford City Council. This is a great way to kick start the new school year in a fun and engaging way and something in which all the family can take part. Each child in the school received an information pack for their parents, a fob and a map of Waterford City and Waterford County. Over the next two months between September 13th and November 1st, we all must play the walk , cycle or run game. Take your fob, follow the map and tap your fob at the various markers highlighted on the map. The more you tap, the more points are build up for the school. The school with the most points will win sports and fitness vouchers for the school.Let's hope it can be St.John of God. Make sure and register your fob at www.beatthesteeet.me/waterford as the teachers will take their classes out over the next two weeks to start everybody off. There is a marker at W23 just at the end of Passage Road where you can begin the challenge ( if we all tapped this every morning the points would surely increase pretty swiftly) . Mrs. Golden's senior infants have already been out and about earning points for the school. Check out the pictures below. So get planning your journeys around Waterford ( don't forget the Greenway and Dungarvan are included as well) and spread the word and get friends and family to join in. Best of luck !
