Today we learned about colour monoprinting, using paint brushes and stencils to get different effects. Then we all did a dry point print, which involves scratching a design on a metal plate, inking the plate and printing from it by putting it through a printing press. Thanks to Anne McDonnell, Martina and to Mary Guinan for all their help. We are planning to do a project based on the marriage of Aoife and Strongbow in 1170. We will make books in the form of Aoife's diary. We are working on the diaries with Mrs. Morris in English class. We will illustrate the books using the printing techniques we have learned.

Anne McDonnell came to the school and we learned all about Monoprinting. We did two prints and found out how to ink a plate and use different techniques to make marks on the plate to make different prints. Messy work!

Mrs. Morris's class are taking part in the Crafted Project in collaboration with Waterford Teacher's Centre and the Crafts Council of Ireland. Anne McDonell, who specialises in printing, will come to the school next term and will teach the girls different printing techniques. She is based in Kite Design Studios, near Christ Church Cathedral. Hopefully we will work together on a project that will be inspired by the Norman history of Waterford. Read here all about our project as it unfolds!

Visit to Kite Design Studios to see Anne McDonell's work and to see a print demonstration.
