Biodiversity Flag 2016/2017

Picture
This page is where you will find all things associated with our goal this year of achieving our next green flag which is for biodiversity. Ms. Sheane is in charge of the Green Schools Committee and a new team of girls has been chosen from second to sixth class to work on getting our new flag. Of course with lots of help from all the girls and their teachers. Over the year don't forget to check out this page where you can discover what initiatives we have put in place. At the top of the stairs on the senior corridor we also have a new biodiversity noticeboard where news and updates will be regularly posted. We are all looking forward to working together to get another green flag for St.John of God which we can proudly display outside our school.

What is biodiversity?

This diversity is the astounding array of plant and animal species that perform a vital role in the web of life. Biodiversity is the variety of all living things, including plants, animals, microorganisms and their interrelationships. It is the genes they contain and the ecosystems they form.

14/3/17:We are lucky enough to have the use of an aquarium for a few weeks which is another habitat the classes can study as part of our biodiversity flag. Check out the photos below of its installation and just what exactly is swimming around inside it.

We're working hard towards achieving our Biodiversity Flag.
Below are some pictures which show what we have been up to.

15/10/16: Sixth class planted spring bulbs. We can't wait to see what beautiful flowers appear in the spring months.

12/10/16:Second Class were out in the garden yesterday on a materials hunt. They had a lost of objects they had to find and then see what properties were associated with that object. They worked in pairs and discovered whether the objects were hard, soft, shiny, rough, bendy, crumbly, round, brown, grey or green. All the girls had great fun.
