PE Surveys :7/2/19
All girls from third to sixth classes completed surveys on School PE and physical activity in general in November. Parents of all our pupils were were also all invited to complete a survey online. Many thanks to everyone who completed the surveys which gave us some valuable feedback on our provision of physical activity in the school, all the positive elements of it and also areas where we can seek to improve what we are doing.
We have now analysed the results and we have chosen a number of areas to work on over the coming months.
We have decided to provide a more structured approach to PE homework and this term girls in every class will be asked to document their PE homework on a weekly basis on a Homework Log.
We have decided to increase the opportunities to engage in physical activities during break times in the yard. All classes will document their break time activities on a class log which will be displayed in their classrooms. Teams from 5th class have been set up to take in and out equipment from the storeroom at break times and additional equipment for activities will be purchased.
Finally we will be looking to increase parental participation during our Active Week activities especially the Greenway Cycle.
4/12/18:This year we are prioritizing the gymnastics strand for development . Here we see senior infants enjoying their gymnastics circuit which includes jumps, climbs, balances, rolls and lots more !
10/12/18 :Thanks to Miss Dowling who trained all the sixth class girls to be Playground Leaders for the infant classes in December. The leaders will organise lots of playground games for the infants helping to make their break times more active and enjoyable.
5/11/18:October Active Flag Slogan Competition
We had a school-wide competition for the Active Flag Slogan. Girls from many classes got busy composing and trying out words and sentences. In the end it was down to three teams, all from Fourth Class. The winning slogan came from Mrs Hanrahan's Class:
Skip, skip, jump!
Jump up in the air!
Wave those hands everywhere!
Stay Active, run a mile,
Show us a big smile!
Do some sports
On the courts!
There are actions to go with the slogan too.
Here are the girls who made up the winning slogan:
Azrah, Ayla, Niamh, Lily, Huda, Érran and Zoe.
24/10/18:It has been a superb term for PE where we have had wonderful weather enabling us to enjoy much outdoor activity across many strands . Pictured here are senior infants who enjoyed eight weeks of games and athletics PE lessons.
9/10/18: Fourth Class have been visiting St.Anne's Tennis Club every Thursday morning to practice their tennis skills. The club have kindly let is use two courts so the girls can enjoy some tennis in the fresh air. In the New Year, hopefully we will have some formal lessons with Emma Maguire again.
17/9/18: It's hard to believe that two years have passed since we received our Active Flag. Now it is time to renew our flag and that's what we will be working towards this year. This is the main page for the Active Flag and all P.E based news and information will be posted here. We also have three further pages dedicated to all things active. Click on the links to find out more about physical activity , partnership and Active Week.
5/10/18: Junior Infants are certainly keeping active with lots of Go Noodle and Irish Dancing.
In P.E they have been using the bean bags to work on balance.
Mrs.Golden remains as our school coordinator along with Ms.Fitzgerald, Ms. Dowling and Ms.Crowley as a support team of coordinators. A new active committee for the 2018/2019 school year. The Active Flag is a whole school initiative and we want all the children and their parents to be involved as much as possible again this year. There will be lots of events ongoing throughout the year and all students and parents will be encouraged to participate. Our Well Done wall situated just passed the junior infant classroom is waiting to be filled up with active achievements big and small both in and out of school. Later on in the year sees the return of our Active Week which was a huge success last year where hopefully we will have plenty of active events both new and old for all the girls to participate in.
Check this page regularly to keep up to date with all things active.
